  Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide and is responsible for an estimated 9.6 million deaths in 2018. Globally, about 1 in 6 deaths is due to cancer. Approximately 70% of deaths from cancer occur in low- and middle-income countries. Nearly one-third of deaths from cancer are due to the 5 leading behavioral and dietary risks: high body mass index, low fruit, and vegetable intake, lack of physical activity, tobacco use, and alcohol use. GLOBOCAN 2020 with new estimates on the global cancer burden, indicating that it has risen to 19.3 million cases and 10 million cancer deaths in 2020. Worldwide, an estimated 28.4 million new cancer cases (including NMSC, except basal cell carcinoma) are projected to occur in 2040, a 47% increase from the corresponding 19.3 million cases in 2020, assuming that national rates estimated in 2020 remain constant.
